While video takes the lion's share of interest a lot of the time, when it comes to WebRTC scenarios, more and more applications have started showing increasing interest in audio as well, if not focusing on audio-only use cases entirely: ClubHouse and Twitter Spaces are a couple of good examples of successful applications in that area. This presentation will describe some of the efforts we've spent in that direction in the open source Janus WebRTC Server, and in particular on the AudioBridge plugin, which implements audio mixing functionality. After a brief introduction on Janus itself, the presentation will focus on some of the enhancements we implemented in the AudioBridge plugin recently, both in terms of functionality (e.g., spatial audio, cascaded mixing, etc.) and scalability (e.g., integration in a virtual event platform). The talk will then present a few examples of how these new features were used for interesting new applications.
